Day 3 at the Huduma school

Today was another great day at the school. Monica and Miriam had a fun day. They read Brown Bear, Brown Bear to the kids. They really enjoyed reading it themselves. Miriam taught about Abraham, and they both taught the Abraham song...."Father Abraham had many sons..."

The kids really enjoyed that. Miriam and Monica do such a great job teaching 3 different 3rd grade classes!

Teaching has been such a blessing to me. Having never taught before, God has really taken me out of my comfort zone, changing and shaping me into something that I know will be great. After class was over in the afternoon, I went back up to see them and got mobbed! For some reason they all wanted to touch my hair(or lack of), touch my arms, every piece of me they could. I felt so close to these kids today. Amazing. Can't wait to see what God does in them and in me tomorrow.

2nd Day at Huduma School

Yesterday was our first day at the school. We were a little nervous not knowing what to expect, but Monica and I quickly adjusted and had a great day. The kids are so smart and well-behaved. We are teaching 3 3rd grade classes in 3 hours :-). Brandon is teaching a 5th grade class all by himself and is doing a great job. He is really enjoying it and was even invited to join the class teacher for tea in the staff break room :-). Looking forward to 3 more great days interacting with the kids and teachers.

Jambo!!!
The last few days have been quite an adventure! We had a bumpy ride to London which had most of us feeling a bit queezy. After a good nights rest at the Jurys Inn in London, we were ready for the second day of travel. The flight was much more enjoyable and after 8 hours we landed safely in Nairobi. Yesterday we drove to the Huduma school to unload our ministry suitcases and meet Dr. Kitonga and the staff. After lunch the team went back to the school for an orientation meeting followed by a trip to the bank and the store. Unfortunately Miriam felt under the weather so we both stayed back at the hotel and slept off the bug that was in her system: 12 hours! After much needed rest, we are ready to head into Kawangare Village which is the name of the slums. The team, along with the Huduma staff will be doing some door to door evangelism. It will be an amazing experience interacting with the people here. Pray for hearts to be opened and for the health and safety of the team!!!

3 Days to go!!!

Kenya, here we come! We are 3 days from our big trip. Can't believe it's already here. We have some last minute shopping to do in the next few days - for toilette paper and bug repellent - two very important items needed :-P. It's time to get out the suitcases and checklists and begin packing. Liftoff is at 6:50 Tuesday July 13th :-).
